Buckaroo marks an ambitious and promising debut from New York‑born singer‑songwriter Katzin (real name Zion Battle), released on 13 February 2026 via Mexican Summer. Drawing inspiration from the mythologized imagery of the American West — cowboys, deserts, horses, and endless horizons — the album uses these archetypes as metaphors for the transition from adolescence into adulthood.

Musically, Buckaroo blends indie rock, electroacoustic textures, and elements of bedroom pop into an atmospheric yet grounded collection. The production, co‑crafted with producer Max Morgen, captures both spaciousness and intimacy — a sonic landscape that mirrors the emotional terrain Katzin explores. Tracks like “Tightrope” and “Hope” showcase his expressive vocal range, from hushed introspection to bold, exuberant highs, giving the album an earnest and youthful energy.

Standout singles such as “Wild Horses,” “Anna,” and “Nantucket” demonstrate Katzin’s knack for melodic hooks and evocative arrangement. “Wild Horses” in particular fuses jangly guitar, twangy banjo, and a dreamy atmosphere that feels at once nostalgic and modern, embodying the album’s “desert” aesthetic. Meanwhile, “Anna” pairs delicate banjo lines with layered distortion to create a bittersweet lost‑love vignette.

Lyrically, Buckaroo is grounded in personal reflection — from the confusion of early love to questioning identity and belonging — though at times Katzin’s poetic ambitions outpace his lyrical precision. Yet these small imperfections contribute to the album’s charm: it feels like the unfiltered outpouring of a young artist finding his voice.

Overall, Buckaroo is a warm, textured debut that pays homage to both the wide‑open landscapes that inspired it and the personal horizons Katzin is eager to explore. It’s a record that lingers long after the final track fades.
