Voices From the Lake’s long-awaited return, II, is a modest revelation: an album that feels like the same slow-breathing ecosystem first heard in 2012 but widened in scope and emotional reach. Donato Dozzy and Neel resume their dialogue with time and space, trading in submerged low-end and porous rhythms for ten pieces that move like submerged light across cavern walls. The record rewards patience — textures unfurl gradually, a tactile balance of metallic resonance, warm tape-like pads and distant, processed field-recordings that make the stereo field feel alive.
Where the debut felt like a single, enchanted environment, II introduces sharper contours: “Eos” and “Bespin” carry their usual aquatic hush, while “Manuark” and “Aquateo” introduce low rhythmic propulsion and a hint of menace, giving the album kinetic moments without breaking its meditative gravity. The production is immaculate; the spatialization and subtle stereo shifts make headphones a necessity.
This is ambient techno that still values the body — bass frequencies are felt as much as heard but it also opens toward a clearer melodic tenderness than before.
