New York‑based rapper and underground icon Elucid has officially announced his highly anticipated solo album I Guess U Had to Be There, set for release on March 13, 2026. The project, produced in full by Swiss beat‑maker Sebb Bash, marks Elucid’s first major solo statement since his critically acclaimed 2024 album Revelator.

The announcement arrived alongside the premiere of the lead single and opening track “First Light”, which also debuted with a visual component. The song features experimental artist Mattie, offering listeners an early look at the album’s atmospheric and layered sound world.

I Guess U Had to Be There showcases Elucid’s ever‑evolving lyricism and boundary‑pushing instincts. The record features notable collaborations with a diverse group of artists, including Estee Nack, Shabaka Hutchings, former Juggaknots member Breezly Brewin, and longtime collaborator billy woods—Elucid’s partner in the influential duo Armand Hammer.

Distributed globally by Rhymesayers and Secretly Distribution via Backwoodz Studioz, the album is poised to make waves across both underground and broader hip‑hop communities. Early reports emphasize the chemistry between Elucid’s dense, poetic verses and Sebb Bash’s textured, tense production style—ranging from eerie minimalism to richly layered soundscapes.

In support of the album, Elucid will embark on a 2026 solo tour, followed by dates with billy woods across North America and Europe in promotion of Armand Hammer’s 2025 album Mercy.

With its blend of introspective lyricism and adventurous production, I Guess U Had to Be There is shaping up to be one of hip‑hop’s most intriguing releases of 2026.
