It’s official — Nas and DJ Premier are finally releasing their long-awaited joint album, titled Light‑Years, set to drop on 12 December 2025 via Mass Appeal. Today the duo revealed the cover art and confirmed the title and release date, ending years of anticipation.
Their partnership goes back more than three decades — Premier produced key tracks on Nas’s 1994 debut album Illmatic, including classics that helped define East Coast hip-hop. Their body of work together over the years has built a reputation for razor-sharp beats and lyrical depth, and fans have long hoped for a full-length album from the pair.
Interest surged last year when Nas and Premier reunited for the single Define My Name — released to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Illmatic. That track served as a confirmation that the long-rumoured LP was finally in motion. According to recent interviews, Light-Years isn’t just about new music: it will include unreleased recordings dating back to the early 2000s, capturing ideas from the earliest days of their collaboration.
The album also plays a bigger role in closing out Mass Appeal’s 2025 tribute to New York hip hop — their “Legend Has It…” campaign. Earlier this year the series rolled out albums from influential names like Slick Rick, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Mobb Deep, Big L and De La Soul. With Light-Years, Nas & DJ Premier deliver what many fans hope will be a timeless capstone to that run.
