Kendrick Lamar and SZA took home one of music’s top honors at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night, winning Record of the Year for their hit collaboration “Luther.”
The song, a standout single from Lamar’s acclaimed album GNX, captured the coveted award at the televised ceremony held at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Hosted by Trevor Noah, the Grammys celebrated the best in music from the eligibility period of late 2024 through 2025.
“Luther,” which samples the classic 1982 rendition of If This World Were Mine by Luther Vandross and Cheryl Lynn, topped charts worldwide and became one of the year’s biggest songs, spending 13 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Lamar and SZA were presented with the award by music legend Cher, who also received a Lifetime Achievement Award during the show. In a humorous moment, she momentarily misread her card as “Luther Vandross” before correcting herself and announcing the true winners.

Accepting the honor, Lamar paid homage to Vandross and spoke about the importance of music as a unifying and healing force, while SZA offered a message of resilience and hope to listeners navigating difficult times.
The win further cemented Lamar’s historic night — he also took home multiple awards including Best Rap Album for GNX and became the most-awarded rapper in Grammy history with 27 total wins.
Lamar and SZA beat out a competitive field of nominees, including Bad Bunny, Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Doechii, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, and Rosé & Bruno Mars, underscoring the broad appeal of “Luther” across genres.
